New Business
Environmental News
Lauralyn updated members on the environmental bills (this legislative session): HB 5330 (would expand the current pesticide ban to include parks, playgrounds, athletic fields and municipal greens), SB 237 (ban fracking waste from being stored in Connecticut) and SB 46 (extends the current ban on PreK- 8 school grounds to include high schools). All bills have made it out of committee and are headed to the senate for a vote.
Lauralyn shared news of the proposed Lyme Old Lyme Senior Center garden by LOLHS student Fenton. This proposal is waiting for approval.
Linda share news of the LOLMS education garden. Lauralyn questioned whether there were plans to incorporate yields in the lunch program.
Ongoing Business
Outreach
Tom has been unable to get time with the high school students due to their busy schedules. Members discussed a new approach/campaign for the town “What’s The Buzz?” Members will discuss this further at the May meeting.
Maureen’s proposal of a bike path map/information sheet that highlights natural areas in town was discussed further. Jerry Wiley would design the map. As George was unable to attend the meeting, there was no update on the Land Trust as a possible joint venture.
Rogers Lake
Linda announced the barrier garden sign is scheduled to be installed within the week.
Sue reported:
- there are weed mats available for loaning and Dennis Overfield is the
contact person on the RLA for this
- the fish ladder was scheduled to open on April 1 but the high water level prevented that from taking place
- the towns of Lyme and Old Lyme have hired a firm to address the invasive weeds in the lake
Maureen shared news that Candlewood Lake is considering the use of carp for their
Milfoil problem.
The meeting adjourned at 9:05 pm.
